When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a «Harrison Ford type» and that he was going to audition people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least introduce him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject him, but at least other people would find out that Harrison Ford had been brought on, sparking interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was still thrilled. From the reviews I’m reading here, people either seem to love this show or hate it, and it seems like it might depend on how critics react to Jason Segal.

The relationships are complex and emotional, and the very real human challenges are well-drawn

I’ve enjoyed his movies and think he’s perfect for the role, and the addition of Harrison Ford takes the show to an even higher level. The writing is excellent, the story is fresh, and the characters are original without falling into over-the-top stereotypes.

It can be very funny and make you cry the next minute

I was really disappointed after the second episode when I realized I’d have to wait longer. Highly recommended!
