Chronology

During the 1972 Munich Olympics, an American sports broadcasting team is thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes. This was the "mystery" movie at the Regal. The collective silence of the moviegoers at the beginning of the movie was amusing as they tried to figure out what movie was going to play.

I will seriously try not to give away spoilers or too much!

This is my kind of movie, a serious drama, so from the start I had high hopes. However, the vibe soon got to me like a movie that is trying to be intense and dramatic (perhaps too focused on wanting to deliver great acting rather than relaxing into the characters and letting the intense energies build naturally), so I found this movie was missing something, a forced atmosphere in the scenes. "Get some coffee." Isn’t every grown adult in an office or office-like setting able to get their own coffee?

People first, sports second

However, this film was a reminder of the times and the lack of female leadership in news, especially sports news. I understand that this film is trying to recreate events and therefore uses historical characters, but I found so many scenes where the guys in charge were just chatting a little. It was surreal to see a tragic historical tragedy happening in the same vicinity of a sporting event.

So the games went on

But there’s a lot of money involved with the Olympics and big sporting events. Although I might give this film another try and see my thoughts a second time. The acting was good (of course, as stated, there was a forced effort to want intensity rather than the intrinsic organic nature that pushes the acting into GREAT) and the sets, sets, clothes, makeup, flow and script were also strong.
