Story
Joe, a CIA agent, tries to balance his personal and professional life as the spearhead of the agency’s war on terror. Real-life military advisors helped create a more authentic execution of weapons handling, house cleaning, positioning, squad activities, and more. Mr. Sheridan knows how to take us into testosterone-fueled macho worlds, without clichés and, apparently, without agenda. That’s just the way it is.
Guys are simple
No apologies are necessary. His characters are always realistic and he is extremely good at casting. But to be great, you have to write good roles for women. The writing has to be as good, if not better, than the men’s. Women are smarter, more complex.
They are strong and compelling
Beth on Yellowstone (a great character and performance), the barrel riders, the lone ranch hand (a fantastic Jen Landon as Teeter), all great female characters who fit into the world of the story effortlessly and naturally. Not just a “partner…” or T&A. He stepped up his game with the excellent Faith Hill character who was broken in “1883” follows Dame Mirren in a misfire in “1923.” Now we have Zoe Saldana doing some of the best work of her career. I absolutely buy her as the head of the CIA in an open marriage (a good thing). I buy De Oliveira as a broken woman with a burning anger who won’t give up and thank you, thank you, thank you to the writers/directors/producers for NOT letting her get the better of a comrade with an extra hundred pounds of muscle.
I buy it
Truth above all else! I think her character is much more interesting if she is someone who needs to be knocked out or simply restrained on the ground before she gives up. Now let’s talk about Jill Wagner or should I say her hair? What’s with the face! From cutesy Hallmark jerks to ultra-dangerous special forces?
Special mention: Ms
Lanier as the evil teen. I’m waiting for the arc that unfolds for this loose cannon as long as they continue to stay away from the teen angst cliches. Good actor, this could be interesting…
